The title is a take-off on Field & Stream, a U.S. magazine that focuses on hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities. First published in 1895, it has been online-only since 2020.
It's opening day of trout season and Ed is looking for a quiet fishing spot. He struggles to do any kind of fishing. Next, it's duck season and then deer season. It's a Tex Avery cartoon.
I remember a lot of the fishing. I do wish to do more with the fishing but maybe Tex ran out of material. Fishing and hunting should stay separate. The hunting half is the weaker half. I still really love the fishing half. There is real humor and pathos in Ed's desperate search for good fishing. The hunting is often mean-spirited.
